The Republic of Türkiye was founded on October 29, 1923 by the national hero Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, following the victory in the War of Independence. It was established on the remaining Anatolian and Thracian territories of the Ottoman Empire, which had been defeated in World War I and partitioned by the victorious powers.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who proclaimed the Republic in 1923, is the founder of the Republic of Türkiye.

While Atatürk led Türkiye toward a democratic system of governance, he also guaranteed the preservation and continuation of Turkish culture, traditions, and customs.
